The Green Man Village Pub and Tea Rooms, 24 High St, Ropsley, Grantham, NG33 4BE. Tel : 01476 585897
Full time Bar & Restaurant Pro required!
The Green Man, Ropsley is the area’s top-rated pub & restaurant on TripAdvisor (in fact we’re the No1 Pub in Lincolnshire too at the time of this going to print) and we strive to delight all our customers in just getting basic hospitality right! We’ve an amazing chef team at the heart of the operation, but our front of house staff also excel in ensuring everyone enjoys their visit to the Green Man; exuding an enormous welcome to all those that come to enjoy our award winning food and beers! We were local CAMRA PUB OF THE YEAR 2017, we’ve won the Grantham Taste Award, we were crowned winners for the East of England Countryside Alliance Awards, we now feature in the Good beer Guide 2018 and we’ve just picked up our TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the second year running! Our website will give you a flavour of the Green Man and where we’ve got to as a concept over the last couple of years, but with ambitious plans to grow our customer base further through stretching the boundaries and genuinely getting the basics right “first time, every time”, we’re relentless in delivering GREAT food, GREAT beer and GREAT hospitality each and every day.
As a restaurant and bar pro, you’ll be a “jack of all trades” ensuring we continue to “wow” customers and keep our little, old pub going full-pelt right the way through the trading day! Yes, you’ll be at the forefront of it, meeting and greeting, but you’ll also be hands-on back of house; whether that’s cellar management, food preparation, washing pots, running to the bakers, helping the fishmonger in with our deliveries, even mowing the beer garden!...Everything that’s required to help keep the team delivering an all-round “great” experience for our customers; you’ll have a hand in!
You’ll be working a minimum of 25-40hrs per week depending on the right candidate’s availability. Ultimately, flexibility is key. We’re not inventing this position just to make up staff numbers...we’re increasingly busy and require an extremely flexible professional that’s comfortable working daytimes, evenings and weekends. We operate a fair and rolling shift pattern, but early starts, late nights, the majority (but not all) of weekends are all shifts we’d expect you to work, so don’t apply for the position light-heartedly! Nonetheless, we believe great staff deserve great rewards and we offer a monthly bonus scheme, a healthy share of tips and a schedule of training that includes visits to national food & drink tradeshows, brewery visits and funded qualifications.
What you'll need...
A genuine, pleasant demeanour, taking enjoyment in engaging with a wide range of people! You'll be passionate about all aspects of food and drink.
A "want to work attitude". We don't suffer fools! (Lay-abouts quickly find their shifts dry up!). We leave our problems at home and live and breathe GREATNESS at The Green Man! This isn't a role where there's downtime to be on your phone snapchatting your mates either; we need someone who comes to work focussed and determined to add value and make people smile!
At least 1 year’s bar and/or restaurant experience where you can bring your own learnings and apply the very best to what we do here.
To enjoy learning. There’s oodles of bite sized training on offer from beer appreciation, wine classes and licensing obligations that are "outside the box" versus your typical pub & restaurant place of work..
To enjoy the buzz of being busy and getting stuck in. We're a small pub, but you'll need PACE and RESILIENCE to work alongside us at our busy periods.
A good level of spoken English. A full and clean driving licence. Punctuality and timekeeping is a given!
A Licensees certificate is desirable (not essential) but if you don't hold one yet, you’ll be willing and able to soon qualify accordingly (ie; at least 18 years old!)
What you'll get...
A working environment that will enable you to meet some extremely pleasant people... The Green Man seems to attract the most wonderful of customers and our local community reciprocate the welcome and warmth we offer. You’ll be offered opportunities and the autonomy that will energise you and allow you to bring your own ideas to the table. The remuneration and benefits package will reflect your experience and/or all-round attitude. (And don't forget those bonuses and tips which soon tot up in accordance with the experience we deliver!)
The Next Steps...
We need someone ASAP! Email your CV and and perhaps a covering letter to email@example.com ...or better still; bring it in! Make sure we're the right place for you too!
All shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal interview with some small pre-work involved in the coming weeks.
